Decorative woodcut headpieces initial and tailpiece. <br /> <br /> Originally posthumously published in 1741 Friedrich Adolph Lampe's "Commentarius in Psalmos graduum" is a commentary on Psalms 120-134 of the Book of Psalms entitled "A Song of Degrees or ascent." <br /> <br /> The Psalms are songs. They were sung by the people in their homes and by the choirs in the temple in Jerusalem. Some Psalms were sung by pilgrims journeying up to Jerusalem and the temple. <br /> <br /> The commentary is followed by an exegetical commentary on John's Apocalypse and an exegetical note on Solomon's Ecclesiastes. <br /> <br /> Binding rubbed along edges with ex-library sticker remnant on spine and bookplate on inside of front cover. Closed tear along front joint. Sporadic clear water-staining throughout. Text of the Psalms and Ecclesiastes in Hebrew and Latin and of John's Apocalypse in Greek and Latin. Binding in overall fair interior in fair to good condition. About the author: Friedrich Adolph Lampe 1683-1729 was a German Pietist pastor theologian and professor of dogmatics in Utrecht 1720-1727 and Bremen 1727-1729.
