Chasing Light: The Archival Photographs and Drawings of Paavo Tynell is the first-ever book published in English about the prolific Finnish lighting designer Paavo Tynell. Focusing on the period 1946?1957, the book is based on previously unpublished photographs and work drawings that have been collected from archives. Over 100 archive photos and original drawings also present more unusual and rare variations of Tynell?s lighting design, as well as an in-depth look at the stunning Snowflake chandelier. Tynell?s light fixtures were manufactured by a group of highly-trained metalwork professionals, whose artistry is practically impossible to replicate. The key goal of the book is to feature photographs and drawings that are rich in content for the reader to get an idea of the high level of craftsmanship involved in making these lamps. The book has been written by Finnish antique dealer Ville Linna, and it has been printed in Finland.?

1894519202B.T. Batsford London 1894. 1st Edition. Unframed Photograph Print. Very Good Condition. Merton College Library built 1371-78 retains its 1502 timber roof and metal bosses; England's first stalled library. Charles Latham was one of the most influential architectural photographers of the late Victorian and Edwardian periods renowned for his evocative images of country houses and formal gardens across Britain and Italy. His work helped define the visual language of architectural publishing and preservation. His first major commission was for J. Alfred Gotch's Architecture of the Renaissance in England 1894 from which this photograph is taken where his collotype plates captured the texture and grandeur of Elizabethan and Jacobean houses with remarkable clarity. Latham later helped shape the visual identity of Country Life magazine which we always have in stock photographing both historic estates and newly built homes. His images became central to the magazine's appeal combining editorial elegance with technical innovation in print reproduction. Each of Charles Latham's architectural photographs captures a singular moment of craftsmanship patronage or domestic ambition from heraldic chimney-pieces to formal garden fronts. Whether collegiate civic or aristocratic these buildings speak to the stylistic confidence of their age. Many remain inhabited studied or preserved today making each image not just a historical record but a quietly resonant portrait of continuity. Published in 1894 this fine Victorian-period image has been carefully removed from Gotch's monumental work. Printed in Leipzig Germany by Sinsel & Co. on thick cream-coloured paper this image reflects the firm's hallmark clarity and tonal depth featuring the building's name in sepia ink below a ruled border with Latham's beautifully composed black-and-white photograph taking centre place. 1930D4924Alfafar Valencia c. 1930s. Near Fine. Album containing unmounted watercolor and gouache pencil and color printed studies of individual pieces of furniture and interior design ensembles probably created as maquettes for advertising purposes. Includes 17 in pencil ranging in size from 5.5-by-9 inches to 11-by-17 inches; and 32 in color most about 11-by-15 inches with 3 large pieces 18-by-24 inches folded once down the middle. Total of 48 pieces some a little rubbed or chipped along the edges; a few of the pencil sketches foxed; but the whole is overall nice and bright suitable for display. Remarkably detailed the polished wood shines! and accomplished artwork shows lavish nigh on palatial bedrooms and dining rooms -- with ornate beds bookcases chairs tables bureaus dressers and more prominently on display. 13 images in pencil or in color focus on specific pieces of furniture sometimes many per page taking them out of their context rooms and allowing a detailed look at the piece itself. The designs seem primarily focused on classical and neoclassical styles but Muebles Rodriguez is known for carrying modern colonial Provencal and avant garde pieces as well -- some of that influence is apparent here. A lovely and rich presentation. <br/><br/> unknown books

BESESSEN Die geheime Kunst des Polsterns Upholstered seating is familiar to all of us as a more or less constant companion in everyday life. Upholstery conveys a sense of security and promises comfort, suggests or creates status, and tells a (hi)story. We barely give a thought to its interior. Yet a glimpse inside the chairs and armchairs is a journey into secrets, of lashed and sprung constructions, which prove to be unknown masterpieces of craftsmanship. DEEP-SEATED: The Secret Art of Upholstery traces pieces of furniture and their inner details and illustrates why upholstery is a constant constituent of cultural and social history. From the Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Classicism, Historicism, and Art Nouveau to designs by Arne Jacobsen and Alvar Aalto, the history of upholstered furniture is traced up to the present day. It also includes a closer examination of the corresponding tools, textiles, braiding, tassels, and cushions. All this accumulated knowledge is summarized at the end in an extensive glossary for reference.
