Well-preserved issue of this landmark Soviet art magazine issued from 1930 to 1941 to celebrate the achievements of the first two Five Year Plans and through various foreign-language editions to propagandize the stark contrast between the vibrant Soviet economy during this period and the stagnation of Western economies under capitalism. "All the visual strategies of the propaganda photobooks designed by Lissitsky Rodchenko and others.were developed in USSR in Construction one of the most beautifully produced magazines of the twentieth century" Parr-Badger The Photobook I:148.<br/><br/>The theme of the present issue is dedicated entirely to the production of Gold in the USSR detailing the rise of production from pre-revolutionary Russia 1910 through 1937 when Russia ranked second in the world due to their industrial machinery superior engineering and large working populace. As Sekka's last work it crowns his remarkable career with a lovely evocation of Koetsu's Saga-bon. For more on this important work see Hillier's description on p.976 of the second volume of his ART OF THE JAPANESE BOOK. The condition is a bit better than average with relatively little of the offsetting from the prints to the poems that is usual in this book. Slight foxing and slight edgewear. The printing is very good the colors lovely. It is a very good copy overall. Housed in the original professionally repaired chitsu case with title label that shows general soiling all over and is lacking its clasps. One volume complete:. unknown books

The Tomoye Press was Elder's collaboration with the eminent typographer and printer John Henry Nash 1871-1947 whose standards of quality were second to none. This volume is a careful execution of Foster's seasonal poetry featuring Nash's excellent typesetting and decorations by Will Jenkins.<br/><br/>___DESCRIPTION: Full mauve paper with pink lettering and decorations on the front board fore- and bottom edges uncut purple endpapers frontispiece a reproduction of an illustration titled "My Lady's Garden" by J. Kyoto Unsodo Meiji 43 1910 An orihon in 3 volumes 27 X 19 cm with woodblock printed covers all in a later fitted clasped cloth chitsu case. Unsodo outdid itself in this early design effort. Dozens of double page horizontal designs which become large prints the paper size being 37.5 x 27 cm as well as circular and fan-shaped and single page designs too. Most in the neo-Rimpa style which Unsodo artists pioneered at the beginning of the last century - bold and lovely. A bit of browning and fading the covers show some wear but overall very good condition a very nice impression of this important set. Complete. One of the very best of the Unsodo design books which is very good indeed. unknown books
