37641918-26; all but one item from 'Barlaston Lea Stoke-on-Trent' on Wedgwood letterhead. Chairman of the famous pottery firm Josiah Wedgwood & Sons Ltd 1867-1930 and High Sheriff of Staffordshire. All items are very good if somewhat grubby. The typed letters are one page quarto and the autograph one page octavo. All are signed 'Frank H Wedgwood' and most are stamped and docketed. One letter from 1918 two from 1919 one from 1924 five from 1925 and two from 1926. Mostly brief. Subjects range from Society meetings lectures a discussion of an 'admirable' list of 'Trade Consumers of Pottery' the Wedgwood 'Pottery prizes' design sheets and manufacturers to write to with lists of artists. Letter of 7 July 1925: 'On looking through the list of Pottery & Glass Judges I see that Mr. H. Irving of the Paragon China Co. Longton does not appear on the list. Mr. Edis asked me to approach a brother potter in place of Mr. H. J. Plant who is now in the U.S.A. and I wrote some 10 days ago to Mr. Edis telling him that this gentleman had kindly consented to act as one of the Judges.' PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Dark blue solid presentation case embossed 'Wedgwood' in gilt with dark blue velvet base internally and cream padded lid which is slightly spotted towards hinge but overall in very good condition. Within sits a pale blue and white Jasperware by Wedgwood oval medallion cameo or plaque of Sir Winston Churchill produced to commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of this birth: born 30th November 1874. Measures 11.5 cm high with a raised border of laurel leaves. To the reverse is inscribed 'To commemorate the centenary of the birth of SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL 30th November 1874. Number 732 in a limited edition of 1000'. Below is a Wedgwood factory stamp. Included is a small plastic wallet in very good condition containing an authentication certificate signed by the Chairman of Josiah Wedgwood and Sons Ltd alongside a small paper advertisement for an additional 5 special items produced by the company to commemorate the centenary. The presentation case and wallet come inside their original brown cardboard box labelled and numbered 732.
