Good A robust set of the third edition of Edward Stanley's History of Birds in a gift binding "Books suitable for presents handsomely half bound morocco with gilt edges" declaims the publisher's advert inscribed to Louisa Frances Wedgwood 1834-1903 the great granddaughter of Josiah Wedgwood through both her mother and father from her Aunt Eliza likely her maternal aunt Elizabeth Sarah Wedgwood 1795-1857. Louisa Wedgwood would have been thirteen when she received these volumes from her aunt and while the illustrations don't strive for the refined execution of the bindings the plates are engagingly dramatic including 'Contest between a Boy and an Eagle' and 'Perilous Leap of a Bird-Catcher'.
