Text in French - La porcelaine, matière blanche et translucide, suscite encore de nos jours une véritable passion auprès des esthètes. Cela tient à son aspect, à son toucher, à sa sonorité, sans doute toutes ces qualités qui avaient été reconnues depuis longtemps par les Orientaux. Le but des céramistes européens fut pendant de longues années d'obtenir cette matière séduisante, inventée en Chine au début de l'ère chrétienne, et que l'on disait avoir été rapportée en Europe par Marco Polo. Mais elle avait déjà certainement atteint les pays européens depuis longtemps par les fameuses routes de la soie qui reliaient l'Orient et l'Occident dès le début du Moyen Âge. La mise au point d'une porcelaine sans kaolin, la porcelaine tendre, dès la Renaissance à Florence, par François Il de Médicis fut une première réponse à ces recherches. La porcelaine tendre française reprit, dès la fin du XVIIe siècle, à peu près les mêmes recettes, pour réaliser ce qui est devenu alors la porcelaine française. La découverte de gisements de kaolin en Allemagne, en 1709, incita le reste de l'Europe à activer ses recherches. La ville et la région de Limoges furent amenées à jouer dans ce domaine un rôle de premier plan - Ottimo stato.
