Ex-library book with the usual stamps, stickers, etc. Binding is solid and text/interior is clean and free of marking of any kind. Re-bound by the library into strong, heavy hardback covers in blue buckram. Book shows general light wear. 164 pages with a great many large color prints of painted tomb walls depicting such things as a funerary boat, negro tributaries, animals, horses, chariots, youths carrying arrows, serving maids, sailors, etc.
Eight loose plates mounted on cardstock from the Metropolitan Museum Colorprint Series. The plates appear to be parts of incomplete sets and are 8 3/8"w x 10 3/8" high, mounted on 9 7/8"w x 13"h cardstock, some of which shows spots and discoloration. All in a tattered paper portfolio.

RARE LIMITED EDITION WITH LITHOGRAPHS by Walter Spitzer (b.1927) who established himself in the 1960s as an illustrator of exclusive editions of works by André Malraux, Jean-Paul Sartre, Joseph Kessel, Nikos Kasantzakis and others. The Six-Day War prompted him to begin painting subjects from Jewish and Biblical history and in 1993 made the sculpture "Muselmann" for a Jewish memorial at the Buchenwald Memorialú as well as a memorial to the deportation of the French Jews in Paris, inaugurated by President François Mitterrand in 1994. COPY No.1662. André Malraux (1901-1976) was an eminent French novelist and art theorist who later in his life became Minister of of Information (1945-46) and Minister of Cultural Affairs (1959-1696). 285x235mm. 120 pages. Semi-rigid cover with dust-jacket, transparent plastic dust-jacket and slipcase. Slipcase dirty and bumped/wrinkled. Jacket spine edges slightly wrinkled. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare and beautifully illustrated edition of a novel by one of the most influential 20th-century French novelists is in very good condition.
