Ornate letterhead printed in red and black with engraving of a rising sun 'The Mark of Excellence'. Addressed to 'Messrs. Marcus Adams Ltd. Child Photographers 43 Dover Street W.1.' The letter begins: 'I have in hand the production of a film somewhat of a national character including all the episodes in the reigns of our Royal Family from Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee onwards and I thought it would be a very nice idea to finish the film with a short length of little Princess Elizabeth. I am sorry to say that the Duke and Duchess of York think that the Princess is too young to be filmed yet but they are quite willing for me to reproduce the Princess from a still photograph stating that you have the latest copies of the single photographs of Princess Elizabeth and they have given me the rights to reproduce this in a short length of film.' He asks for 'one or two photographs of the little Princess' to be submitted with a bill adding that 'B. W. Brooke Esq. The Comptroller of the Duke of York's household asked me to state that I have his authority to obtain this photograph from you.' From the Adams family papers. Sotto la lente della sua intelligenza brillante passano così critici teatrali e poeti, attori e politici, ma anche gli effimeri protagonisti della buona società dell'epoca e le persone comuni, nella vita di tutti i giorni e negli svaghi della domenica. Di ciascuno coglie con sguardo acuto e un sorriso divertito, debolezze e particolarità, e con questo materiale ricco di umanità e di toni, compone sapientemente scene e dialoghi pieni di humour. E poi ci sono le questioni cittadine e gli avvenimenti contemporanei, gli spettacoli teatrali e cinematografici della Berlino di quegli anni, che la sua penna ricrea con grande vivacità e stile personalissimo. Il mezzo può essere diverso, ma lo stile e la capacità di delineare vicende e personaggi sono proprio quelli dei grandi capolavori di Wilder, sceneggiatore e regista di film indimenticabili come "Quando la moglie è in vacanza" e "A qualcuno piace caldo".

Raccolta del 1946 delle tre opere teatrali di Oscar Wilde «Salomé», «Il ventaglio di Lady Windermere» e «L’importanza di chiamarsi Ernesto» per la collana diretta da Paolo Grassi «Il teatro nel tempo» dell’editore Il Poligono. La traduzione delle drammaturgie è accompagnata da diverse riproduzioni fotografiche di rappresentazioni delle opere e dalla riproduzione delle illustrazioni dell’artista tedesco Alastair (Hans Henning Otto). Un ricco saggio introduttivo di Guido Guerrasio completa il volume.
