1940ART_A2G. Alan Chidsey Great Neck NY: 1940 1940 Hand-made book comprised of artfully pasted-in clippings from Boothe's magazine and news articles with other design and format elements drawn in by the designer. Thin 4to. Buckram cloth binding. Watkins 1894-1972 was born in New York City. Getting early training with Cecilia Beaux at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts - most of his career as an artist was spent in Philadelphia. He developed a reputation as a portraitist - but also provided sets and costumes for a Balanchine ballet and the murals for the Rodin Museum in Philadelphia. G. Alan Chidsey was a New York bookseller lawyer and occasional book designer who served as a trustee to the Marsden Hartley estate. While we have found a couple similar books designed by Chidsey described as mock-ups none seem to have entered an actual print run suggesting these were instead one-off or very small-run originals. Rare. Art 1. Hardcover. Very Good. G. Alan Chidsey, Great Neck, NY: 1940 hardcover
