Final Script for the 1938 film. <br/><br/>Loosely based on the events surrounding the construction of the Suez Canal the film stirred controversy upon its release when the descendants of main characters Matthieu and Ferdinand de Lesseps unsuccessfully sued the studio for libel. With all the elaborate costuming special effects and production costs typical of a Zanuck picture its cinematic qualities do their best to offset what can only be called a very unique take on historical accuracy. Nominated for the Academy Awards for Best Cinematography Best Original Score and Best Sound Recording. A "first draft" of Grodin's adaptation of Allen's 1969 Broadway play. The draft is undated but two inserted revises on darker blue paper are dated 15 February 1971. Eventually Allen himself undertook the screenplay for the final film and a cursory examination of the first few pages evidences considerable variation between Grodin's draft and Allen's screenplay. The film which was a Paramount production rather than 20th Century- Fox was released in May 1972 was directed by Herbert Ross and starred Allen Diane Keaton Tony Roberts Jerry Lacy Viva Joy Bang et al. Actual pre-production scripts by Allen or for films based on his sourceworks tend to be rather uncommon their circulation being largely confined to those actually involved directly in production. This copy bears the ink name "Jerry Lacy" on the upper wrapper he played Bogart in the film and contact info for Joy Bang and other annotations in the same hand. A highly atmospheric poster for the 1948 US release of the 1947 UK film based on Ambler's original screenplay. Ambler is also credited as producer of the film. John Mills Joan Greenwood and Edward Chapman starred and Roy Ward Baker directed. The release of the film prompted the publication of a novelization of the script in the UK. One of the set of lobby cards issued to promote this film adaptation of Eric Ambler's 1939 espionage thriller directed by Jean Negulesco based on a script by novelist/pulp writer Frank Gruber his fourth screen credit. The drama features Sydney Greenstreet Zachary Scott Faye Emerson and Peter Lorre et al. This card depicts Emerson confronting Greenstreet in a tense moment wrapped by a quite stylish title banner. Based on the 1890 story by Ambrose Bierce. 22 pages of storyboards corresponding with the script that follows all bound together. Decorative cast and crew invite to premiere and wrap party laid in. <br/><br/>The second filmed version of Bierce's short story the first one titled "The Bridge" was made by Charles Vidor in 1929 virtually unknown preceding both the well known 1959 version filmed for the fifth season of Rod Serling's "The Twilight Zone" and the French version made in 1962 by Robert Enrico. <br/><br/>According to the 1956-57 Film Review of Student Productions presented by Department of Cinema and Delta Kappa Alpha at the University of Southern California USC the film was part of the Productions of the Graduate Workshop in the fall of 1956. Laid in is an invitation to premiere screening held at CineManor where USC's California National Honorary Cinema Fraternity Delta Kappa Alpha hosted screenings and social events. Douglas W.
