Mimeo snipe printed on the verso of each. <br/><br/>Loosely based on the 1874 novel by Jules Verne. Count Dakkar Lionel Barrymore the benevolent scientist-leader of a volcanic island is attacked by the evil despot Baron Falon Montagu Love leading to a submarine chase in which they discover a race of water-bound humanoids. <br/><br/>Fraught with a difficult production the film began shooting in 1926 but due to various problems it would take three more years before its 1929 release. Lauded as an impressive cinematic feat the astronomical price tag over $1 million in 1929 all but guaranteed the film would be a financial disaster at the box office turning studios off science fiction for many years. <br/><br/>"The Mysterious Island" was at the forefront of multiple technological advances a part-talkie film shot entirely in Technicolor. All color copies were believed lost but in 2013 one existing color print was discovered in Prague and has since been restored through a collaboration between US film experts and the Czech National Film Archive. <br/><br/>8 x 10 inches. Based on the Richard Connell short story first published in "Colliers" in 1924. <br/><br/>A rare set of scripts for a groundbreaking film. A deranged millionaire living on an island arranges for a yacht to be shipwrecked on his shores whereupon he arranges for the survivors to be hunted. Soon an anti-Nazi resistance force is formed and begin sabotaging German camps and killing their officers. Original one sheet poster for the 1976 blaxploitation film "The Monkey Hustle."<br/><br/>A classic entry in the action comedy subset of blaxploitation films in which a neighborhood must band together in order to prevent the city from demolishing their homes to build a highway. Set in Chicago and shot there on location. <br/><br/>Largely low-budget and geared towards a young urban audience blaxploitation films often depicted African-Americans overcoming hostile authorities through cunning and violence as well as conflicts internal to the culture. Though some of the first mainstream films to feature predominantly black casts and introduce previously non-represented elements of black culture including the notable use of funk and soul music in soundtracks they were also panned for furthering stereotypes about black people.
