1883149639Rochester NY: H. H. Warner & Co 1883. Softcover. G- Substantial edge wear and soiling to covers; page edges are beginning to flake off; pages are aged but not foxed; text is clear. Pinkish paper wraps 32 pp. BW illus. A pamphlet that touts the virtues of H. H. Warner's Safe Kidney & Liver Cure which treated Bright's disease; stones found in kidney and bladder; inflammation of the kidneys liver and urinary organs; and much much more. So safe a product was this medicine that its bottles carried a picture of a safe on them. This 32-page advertisement for the liquid is caged in the guise of a customer contest in which a total of $2000 would be doled out to various levels of winners. Top prize $1000; second prize $300; third prize $250 etc. All you had to do was figure out the 10 "enigmas" that ran along the bottom edges of these pages. Detailed directions for submissions were included. Since this is the "fourth annual pamphlet" this marketing approach must have worked for the Warners. But really most of the pages are testimonials from folks all over the country who used the medicine and were cured of their maladies and calamities. Each one carries a facsimile of the person's signature. The front and back covers show engraved portraits of a total of 18 gentlemen who are presumably either satisfied customers or people mentioned in the enigmas. Central on the front cover is Chester A. Arthur with his signature. It sure would be fun to track down all of the people named in this lengthy promotional piece. Ah well. Maybe you have the time. The seven-story Gothic style H. H. Warner Building still stands in Rochester and is on the National Register of Historic Places. H. H. Warner & Co paperback
18799191David Atwood 1879. Hardcover. Very Good/No Dust Jacket. This is a scarce Original 1879 Printing in Very Good Condition. This is a very handsomely bound book with blue cloth covers and bright gold designs and text on the covers. There is a large Fold-Out MAP of Wisconsin in the back and there are a couple more Fold-Outs in the front that show Diagrams of The Senate Chamber and The Assembly Chamber. There are also many more illustrations throughout showing important Buildings and Architecture of the State. The book is complete with 578 pages plus the fold outs. The book is Clean Solid and in Very Good Condition - all the pages are nice and clean the paper is strong and supple the fold outs are in great shape with no tears the binding is strong with all pages firmly attached. The blue covers are also in great condition with some light edgewear. I have placed the book in a fresh mylar jacket and the book looks and feels great - this is a rare and important book that documents the early Political and State History of Wisconsin I could find no other copies of this book available for sale. The catalog features wonderful color covers depicting the "BATTLE OF TIPPECANOE 1811" Warner sold a product line called "Tippecanoe Bitters" thus the tie-in. With illustrations of medicine bottles and an 1884-1885 solar/lunar calendar on the inside front cover. There are dozens of signed facsimile product testimonials drug recipes and more. Please see the photos for the complete list of contents. More commonly found is the H.H. Warner trade card depicting the Battle of Tippecanoe.this is a complete catalog with 2 color covers.<br /><br />Condition:<br />Small tears along the perimeter; larger 1.5" tear at the top edge. The pages are lightly tanned and are mostly clean with no writing; both inside covers have a couple small stains. There is a small burn hole at the bottom edge of all pages. H.H. Warner & Co.

Signed by 2 witnesses and the town clerk. The J.H.Sessions & Son manufacturing company was formed in 1854 in Bristol CT. They manufactured hardware for trunks at their 273 Riverside Ave. location the abandoned building still standing today. A unique piece of Bristol history. John Nugent Fitch 1840–1927 was a British botanical illustrator and lithographer best known for his contribution of 528 plates to The Orchid Album a landmark work of eleven volumes published between 1872 and 1897. Benjamin Samuel Williams 1822 - 1890 was an English orchidologist in London known mainly for his horticultural notes on orchids in publications such as The Orchid Grower's Manual London 1871 Select Orchidaceous Plants London 1862 onwards and The Orchid Album London 1882-97. These flowers are very large and of fine substance the two lower sepals having together almost a circular outline and measuring across the centre 2-1/2 inches. These lateral sepals are broadly semi-ovate and apiculate and of a rich magenta-crimson flushed with bluish-purple. Sadly part of the colored map is missing but everything else is present and the binding is tight. This copy has been handsomely bound in full leather. The spine is intact but with some wear to the surface and fading of the titles. The book has marbled endpapers and a marbled fore-edge. The hinges are sound front and back and I see no markings or inscriptions. The main condition problem is widespread foxing which is probably true of all copies. The engraving is titled "SOUTH VIEW OF NORWICH CITY CON." and is hand-colored. Wooden frame with a wire securely attached at the back for hanging. A highly attractive piece perfectly suitable for display. John Warner Barber was one of Connecticut's early historians a prolific engraver and author. He is best known for his vivid detailed chronicles of early 19th-century American life. Operating before the era of widespread photography he traveled extensively across the eastern United States to document townscapes landmarks and local history through meticulous wood and steel engravings. The frame measures 16 1/8" wide x 13 1/8" tall. Professionally framed by "Einhorn Galleries" in Connecticut per the label on the back.<br /><br />Condition:<br />The picture is in overall Near Fine condition and would make for an excellent display piece. The engraving is clean with no notable issues found. The frame is in terrific condition with no issues found. A wonderful display piece.</p>
