This paper <strong>A Remarkable Case of an Aneurism or Disease of the principal Artery of the Thigh Ocasioned by a Fall. To which is prefixed a short Account of the Uncertainty of Distinguishing Symptoms of this Disease. By Jos. Warner F.R.S and Surgeon to Guy's Hospitaly</strong> was presented to the Royal Society on November 17 1757 and published in 1758 in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society Vol. 50 Part 1 pages 363 to 370. The paper which has been disbound from the Transactions measures approximately 6 x 8.5 inches. The pages are tanned but the text is clear and easily read. The overall condition of the item is good/very good.</p><p>The illustrations accompanying this description show the first page of the article plus three typical pages.</p><p><strong>Joseph Warner</strong> 1717 - 1801 was a British surgeon. He was the first to tie the common carotid artery an operation he performed in 1775. He was elected surgeon to Guy's Hospital on 22 February 1746 a post he resigned on 30 JUne 1780. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society on 6 December1750 and on 5 April 1764 he was chosen a member of the court of assistants of the Corporation of Surgeons.
