1872347Chicago: Warner and Beers 1872. 16 1/2 x 13 1/2 inches. Very good. This is a county map for Lake & McHenry counties in Illinois. Included also is an index of maps and their location in an Atlas of Illinois. In the key to he map are categories for railroads and railroads proposed. Additionally this is a roads category. when applied to the map it is easy to discern a transportation network in place for both counties. This is a very nice map. Warner and Beers unknown
1848TB33248Worcester Mass.: Warren Lazell 1848. Reprint of 1848. Very good in fine new binding of black cloth covered boards with gilt text on the spine and new end sheets. The edges of the text block are marbled. A small quarto of 9 by 5 1/2 inches with no wear to the binding an early prior owner's name in pencil on the second free end page. The contents are surprisingly clean and bright this dealer suspects the pages were . washed before rebinding. Tthe fold-out hand-colored map is also clean and bright and without any damage 631 pages of text illustrated from 200 woodcut engravings and the hand-colored fold-out map. 1844TB31669Worcester Mass.: Warren Lazell 1844. Reprint of 1844. Good in its original binding of full leather covered boards with gilt decorations and gilt text on the spine. The edges of the text block are marbled. A small quarto of 9 by 5 1/2 inches with the leather worn through over the front and rear joints the lower edges of the boards and the tips of the boards. There is an early prior owner's name written in ink at the upper edge of the title page. The contents are generally foxed on the margins and the fold-out hand-colored map is partially tanned it is in undamaged condition. 624 pages of text illustrated from 200 woodcut engravings and the hand-colored fold-out map. John Nugent Fitch 1840–1927 was a British botanical illustrator and lithographer best known for his contribution of 528 plates to The Orchid Album a landmark work of eleven volumes published between 1872 and 1897. Benjamin Samuel Williams 1822 - 1890 was an English orchidologist in London known mainly for his horticultural notes on orchids in publications such as The Orchid Grower's Manual London 1871 Select Orchidaceous Plants London 1862 onwards and The Orchid Album London 1882-97. These flowers are very large and of fine substance the two lower sepals having together almost a circular outline and measuring across the centre 2-1/2 inches. These lateral sepals are broadly semi-ovate and apiculate and of a rich magenta-crimson flushed with bluish-purple. 1874756Chicago: Warner & Beers 1874. 14 1/2 x 12 1/2 inches. Very good condition. This is a map of one of the more important townships of Illinois. It is winfield Township home of Turner's Junction. The first railroad junction in Illinois. The town is now called West Chicago Il. The Galena & Chicago Union Railroad opened from Chicago to Turner in 1849 with the intent of going through Elgin on its way to Galena. The railroad only made it to Freeport. This sure the development of several branches. The Aurora Branch Railroad joined the Galena at Turner and became the first railroad junction in Illinois. This is shown on the map where the C&NW RR Galena & Chicago Union Railroad meets up with the Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad Aurora Branch Railroad. This map is an exceptional graphic representation of that fact. Warner & Beers unknown
1871328Chicago: Warner Higgins and Beers 1871. 16 1/4 x 13 1/4 inches. Good condition having marginal staining lower left without incursion into printed image. this is a medium rare map being published in only one year 1871. The map's a superb cartographic artifact. It was printed in black and white and colored by hand at the time of publication. There are two maps on one sheet each map on a different axis of 90 degrees. The Washington and Oregon map is stunning. It has fine hatching for the coastal range defining the geography of settlement. On the western face of the range to the Pacific Ocean there is a highly developed county system indicating significant settlement. Less dense is the areas east of the range. The Territir of Alaska is finely detailed having been acquired by Seward just four years earlier. Warner and Beers continued publishing after 1871. Higgins was dropped from listing in the title the following year. For its time this map represents the highest standard of cartographic productions. Warner, Higgins and Beers unknown

This is a well composed map to the region that includes Michigan Indiana Illinois Wisconsin Ohio Pennsylvania Maryland Delaware Virginia West Virginia and Kentucky. The map was lithographed in black and shite and hand colored art the time of publication. The place names are quite numerous. The color composition allows for each county to be individually set out. This is a superb example of the later half of the 19th centurury's mapmakers art. Warner & Beers unknown
1871285Chicago: Warner Higgins and Beers 1871. 16 1/4 x 14 1/2 inches. Very good with minor soiling. This map was a component of H. H. Lloyds & Co "Atlas of the United States." Dakota was not a state until November 2nd of 1889 but county formation within the Territory was noted. The composition of this region highlights the post war and post-transcontinental railroad settlement patterns. The Union Pacific Railroad Wass completed two year before the map was made. Significant settlement had occurred along the railroad as had previously occurred along the Missouri River. This is a very nice cartographic artifact of the region during its important settlement period. Warner Higgins and Beers unknown
