Very good/good plus. Abrasions to both pastedowns from jacket flaps; jacket edgeworn scuffed and age toned with some tiny edge chips and archivally closed on verso edge tears -- but complete and overall fairly attractive. A tight and nice first edition of this to cite front jacket panel "selection of the most outstanding articles published in The Reader's Digest during the past twenty years." A panel of a dozen literary notables made the final article selection and this copy bearson front flyleaf choice autograph additions from two of that distinguished group: At top is a fine heavy stock 4¼" X 3½" card bearing the printed message "'So Long Until Tomorrow' / Sunoco News Voice of the Air" signed large and bold by LOWELL THOMAS undated but likely of 1930s vintage; and tipped below this is an Autograph Note Signed from KATHLEEN NORRIS on a buff heavy stock 5" X 3" postal card n.p. n.p. postal cancellation Palo Alto CA18 April 1934. Addressed to future notable Lincoln/Civil War Scholar Arnold F. Gates 1914-93. "Dear Mr. Gates" she pens handsomely in black ink "I'm sorry but I was in China -- hence delay" signing boldly. Thomas 1892-1981 was a renowned journalist author and professional traveler well known to film fans as the voice of "Movietone News" for many years and later host of television travel series. Norris 1880-1966 was a California newspaper columnist and for a half century one of the most popular prolific and highly-paid novelists in the U.S. cranking out almost 100 novels between 1911 "Mother" her first and 1955 "Through a Glass Darkly" her last.
