Le 'Mercure de France' est à l'origine une revue française, fondée au XVIIe siècle sous le nom de 'Mercure Galant', qui évoluera pour devenir, au XXe siècle, une maison d'édition. Sous l'impulsion de Rémy de Gourmont et d'Alfred Jarry, une revue littéraire reprend le nom de 'Mercure de France' en 1890 et propose des textes symbolistes, notamment de Jean Moréas, Ernest Raynaud, Jules Renard, Louis Dumur. Accédant progressivement à la reconnaissance, cette revue va publier aussi bien des Parnassiens parmi les plus grands (Baudelaire, Rimbaud, Verlaine, Mallarmé, Heredia, etc.) que voir l'éclosion de la Pataphysique de Jarry.
