As is common with German hymnals of this era this contains words but no music. Very scarce. Gilt-tooled title "Vie de S. Vinc. de Paul" on red morocco label in second compartment. Gilt-decoration in remaining compartments. All page edges red. Error in signing: Qv signed Qvi. Printed paper label on front fixed endpaper for bookseller Louis-Guillaume Labottiere Bordeaux. In an old hand on title page: "ex libris Congregationis Missionis domus Burdigalensis Catalogo inscriptus." Short inscription on front fixed endpaper. The author Pierre Collet 1693-1770 wrote this biography following the beatification in 1729 and canonization in 1737 of St. Vincent de Paul 1581-1660. It was first published anonymously in 1748; in this somewhat abridged version it became very popular. In Very Good- Condition: leather rubbed with minor loss at tail of spine; corners heavily rubbed; lower corners bumped; some loss of gilt on spine; faint dampstain at upper page corners; otherwise clean and tight. More hand written notes from the same period written on the front paste down about the book and library. Leather binding patched on the spine joints and covers. First 4 leaves edge torn taped in the gutters and stained this volume suffered water damage. Purplish stains in the text gradually disappearing by page 300. No mold found inside. Browning to the gutters. Several page tears at bottom and top in the gutters. Remains of the half title page pasted down onto a sheet of white paper and bound in before the title page.
