The Psalms has a title pg Cambridge John Archdeacon 1783. Condition is GOOD ; book lacks the rear board. Front hinge shows a fine crack but the binding is tight. Title pg of Common Prayer lacking first pg of the text is the contents pg. The ffep is charming: written in a contemporary hand is: Sarah Salt Hur Book. Steale not this book for feer of shame for here you see the owners name." On the back of this page are two ink drawings of "Queen Ann and King George 3". The author notes that 'some very discerning Men suspect a Snake in the Grass and that all this Noise about High and Low-Church whatever was the Original of it is now improv'd into a mere State Faction and signifies no more than Whig and Tory'. Spine label very good. Signed by Horace Binney ex Philadelphia Federal era legislator. Notes in contemporary hand in numbers of ffep. Second leaf to the reader appears missing and Title page has a neat rectangle cut at the top just above the first word. No other markings. Text is toned and endpapers also. Very readable though. A scarce pirated edition of an anonymous work Copac records just two copies; no date bur Copac suggest 1710; pp.18 158 2 - contents 2- publisher's catalogue. A fine early nineteenth century binding in full straight-grained black morocco elaborately decorated in gilt and blind to the boards and spine; all edges gilt; pink marbled end papers. Binding very good with a little rubbing to extremities and joints. Contents generally very good; title page laid down worn and torn with loss approximately 20% missing affecting a few words of the title a few pages close-trimmed to fore-edge or running title. Inscriptions to front blank stating book was published in 1558! There should possibly be a frontispiece plate though no present in this copy. A good/very good copy. Condition is VERY GOOD ; full contemporary binding of pale gold sheepskin with stamped decorations. Raised spine bands. Green tinted text edges. A veryt handsome binding of the period. Condition is VERY GOOD ; leather supple with no cracks to the joints. Faint writing in a contemporary hand on upper spine. Overall the binding shows some age discolorations but has little wear at all and is in remarkably fine shape. Binding tight. Front endpapers have an old label from the Bangor Maine Theological Seminary a small 20th c. PO's bookplate a later stamp from the Seminary and the words "Maine Charity Scoool 1834" in a copperplate hand. Also a gift message in ink from Leonard Baskin the well-known American painter printmaker and book designer to a friend. The frontis title pg and dedications are printed on a whiter paper stock the text is on one that has toned a bit but has only very mild foxing. Rel. Fine Bindings. RGR.
