Récit du double "itinéraire", intellectuel et pratique, de Henri PERRIN (1914-1954), présentant en alternance ses notes, réflexions, correspondances et des textes de présentation de "ses amis": ordonné prêtre en 1938, aumônier clandestin du STO en Allemagne en 1943-1945 (expérience dont il témoignera dans son "Journal d’un prêtre-ouvrier en Allemagne", Le Seuil, 1945), il poursuivra son oeuvre auprès des ouvriers de Notre-Dame-de-la-Gare (Paris 13è) en 1947, où il ouvrira un café, lieu de rencontres de chrétiens progressistes, puis rejoindra en 1951 l'équipe des prêtres-ouvriers des barrages hydrauliques, devenant alors actif militant syndical (intéressant récit de la grande grève du chantier du tunnel Isère-Arc); il arrêtera le travail en 1954, peu avant sa mort accidentelle.
