Volumes I-III contain the history of the Society of Jesus from its origin until the end of the eighteenth century and the first analysis of its constitutions and privileges. Volume IV continues that analysis and has an index of the four-volume set. Barbier assigns the analysis chapters to Lois-Adrien Le Paige. Christophe Coudrette 1701-1774 was a Jansenist and the author of several anti-Jesuit works. Cioranesco 21317. Sous le pseudonyme de Rasiel de Selva, se cache Pierre Quesnel, né à Dieppe en 1699, mort à La Haye en 1774. Quesnel était oratorien et en voulait aux jésuites. Poursuivi par suite de la publication de plusieurs pamphlets, dont celui-ci, et menacé de Bastille, il se réfugia en Hollande où il remplit quelque temps le poste de bibliothécaire du Stathouder.Biogrphie romancé (ou roman biographique) de Ignace de Loyola. Carayon, 3623 / [GRIFFET ET MENOUX]. Coup d'oeil sur l'arrest du Parlement de Paris, du 6 août 1761 concernant l'Institut des Jésuites, imprimé à Prague en 1757. Avignon, Chambeau, 1761. Sommervogel III, 1819 - Carayon 3490. De la bibliothèque du Marquis d'Aligre (ex-libris XVIII°). Né à Paris en 1726 dans une famille qui compta deux chanceliers, il fut nommé Président du Parlement en 1768. Il fit plusieurs fois des remontrances au roi contre les impôts et contre les opérations ministérielles subversives. En 1788, en présence de Necker, il lut un mémoire au roi dans lequel il pronostiquait les malheurs qui, selon lui, découleraient de la convocation des États-Généraux. N’ayant pas été écouté par le roi, d’Aligre démissionna du Parlement. Le jour de la prise de la Bastille il fut arrêté mais put s’échapper grâce à un de ses anciens domestiques. Il émigra à Londres où l’attendait une fortune placée dans une banque anglaise. Il mourut en 1798 à Brunswick, laissant une fortune colossale à ses deux enfants. Menus accrocs à la reliure.

Jolis bandeaux gravés en tête des trois livres de la première partie, ainsi que du Mémoire. Il manque dans notre exemplaire le frontispice et les deux planches hors-texte. Mentions manuscrites anciennes de propriétaires : « Ce livre appartient à la communauté des Ursulines de Lamballe » (en page de garde) et « Ursulines de Quintin » (sur le premier contreplat).

Los Jesuitas fueron expulsados de Perú asà como de otras posesiones de España en América por orden de Carlos III en 1767. El libro también incluye las Constituciones de diferentes colegios peruanos que estaban bajo la supervisión de los jesuitas. Obra extraordinariamente rara de encontrar completa de sus dos volúmenes especialmente un ejemplar hermoso como el nuestro. Tiene en total 19 portadillas fuera de la paginación.
