OCLC 967844253 Acts include incorporation of seven gold mining companies nine acts regarding construction of roads twenty-one acts regarding establishment of militias five acts regarding treatment of Negroes etc. In 1825 a reporter wrote: “The mining interest of the State is now only second to the farming interest.” Most North Carolina gold was found in ten Piedmont counties: Guilford Randolph Davidson Rowan Montgomery Stanly Cabarrus Mecklenburg Gaston and Union but there were deposits farther west.
