Hardcover original marbled paper cover boards half bound in leather with black label to spine. Exterior shows wear and soiling in leather is frayed and peeling to the finish. Internal binding is good other than some minor pulling. Pages are lightly tone due to age and some foxing and spotting is present with the worst being the end pages. No signatures or bookplates no handwriting or library markings present. Laws include several sections on slaves and ownership an interesting section on what defines a militia pages 33 - 37 stating it is to be organized to provide for the defense of the commonwealth with officers and regiments brigades etc. This is the original publication from 1858 not a modern reprint. <br/> <br/> William F. Hardcover original marbled paper cover boards half bound in leather with red and black labels to spine. Exterior shows scuffing and soiling with cracking in wear to the leather. Internal binding is good no hinge issues nothing torn or loose. Pages are toned due to age and foxing and spotting is present throughout. Front hinge is starting to open in the center. Previous owners names are written in several areas it appears as book was passed down from father to son with the front and rear pastedowns showing the name R. S. Brown - May 1886 in the first end page shows the name C. L. Brown. In addition the original owner signed 'Brown" twice on the title page. No other handwriting found in the book.
