Text with some dusting Good.<br /> <br /> This pamphlet demonstrates the democratic self-governing principles of American congregations unlike the hierarchical organization of their British antecedents. It tells the story of the decline and fall of Reverend Jonathan Bowman the minister of this Unitarian Universalist Church from 1729 until 1773 when he "came somewhat violently into collision with his parish" web site of Dorchester Historical Society. The Congregation objected to Bowman's "absolute and unlimited power in the Church of Christ in this place contrary to constitution of Church government." <br /> The crisis was initiated by Reverend Bowman's chickens who trespassed into the neighboring yard of Paul Hall his parishioner who punished the offending creatures by executing them. In a display of chutzpah Hall then brought his baby to the Church for baptism. Bowman refused to perform the ceremony. The bitter dispute ended with Bowman's ouster after more than four decades of service. Bowman was pilloried for refusing the baptism; and his sermons were deemed excessively short and old-fashioned. Moreover "There has been a neglect in our Rev. Pastor in not insisting more fully upon the doctrines of original sin regeneration and self-denial."<br /> Evans 13254. ESTC W24648. Blotz's pseudonym for Ferdinand Christian Touchy 1736–1808 <em>Die Gartenkunst</em> edited by Johann Ludwig Christ and published 1797–1804 is the second revised expanded and improved edition based on the original 1775 publication. It reflects the advances in horticultural knowledge and practice of the time. The text provides comprehensive guidance on the design establishment and maintenance of various types of gardens including ornamental Lustgärten kitchen Küchengärten arboretum Baumgärten and flower gardens Blumengärten. L. Christ 1739–1813 a pastor by profession was the leading pomologist of his time. In two of his own tree nurseries he dedicated himself to the cultivation of fruit trees and laid the foundation for systematic fruit growing. His systematic classification of fruit varieties is also significant </em> unknown

This is a perfectly serviceable reference copy; nothing fancy but complete and sturdy a helpful guide to the marks and names and logos of leading French makers of pottery silverware and the like. It is clean internally except for a margin stain affecting 20 pages but that doesn't affect text or illustrations. Surely a rebind from some point in the past but still strong and sturdy. Coverings to perhaps original boards are sympathetic to period 1762 and feature four fleurs-de-lis to both front and rear and miniscule dentelles surrounding ruled borders too. Backstrip is moderately worn and scuffed but features five raised bands and a neatly affixed leather label into which has been gilt-stamped the title and with publication date to spine bottom. Octavo in format lv 414 pp. Illustrated and printed paper wrappers. Half a dozen black-and-white folding plates and many more black-and-white illustrations. All three edges stained red. Still a moderatly sturdy volume that looks great on the shelf and with a remarkably clean interior.Member I.O.B.A. C.B.A. and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
