That winter was particularly harsh and the expedition was put on hold until the spring. Gunnison made use of the time to befriend and study the culture of the Mormon inhabitants of the Salt Lake Valley. With the nineteenth century trade ticket of Cockayne of Walworth Road, London on front paste-down. This profusely illustrated issue, variously dated between 1881 and 1890, is the best of the late nineteenth editions of Farrar's classic biographical account. A handsome copy in neatly restored period binding, ideal as a gift or for presentation.
