Headline reads "American Quaker named mayor of Jerusalem as hour for end of British mandate over Palestine draws near; Jews prepare to proclaim their new Palestine state at moment British terminate authority; Arabs reported posed for invasion." The League of Nations Mandate for Palestine following World War I would end as the Palestinian war raged expelling half of prewar Palestine's Arab population from their homes. A brochure charting the history of the hospital since its founding around 600 CE including several illustrated pages on the period between 1914 and 1959 during which it was sabotaged by Turkish forces forced to adapt to the end of the Mandate and launched a new research project to address eye diseases in the Middle East. Publication occurred in the middle of a significant expansion plan the order constructing new buildings with financial and logistical support from Jordan Kuwait Bahrein Qatar and several major oil companies. Illustrated title & frontispiece six colour plates other illustrations in the text. This is one of 250 copies this copy unnumbered signed by Julie Jerusalem and the artist Richard Teschner. Jerusalem has signed on the colophon page Teschner at the bottom of the first colour plate. An Indian legend in verse this went through several editions. This signed edition is scarce.
