The popularity of the eighteenth century preacher has been attributed to his focus on moral subjects rather than stressing dogmatic subjects. In this leather bound collection of lent sermons the Bishop of Clermont describes the difficulties and secrets of the human heart with poetical feeling. In a quarter calf binding over patterned boards. Externally generally smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards particularly at the edges. There is a chip in the paper to the front board. A little rubbed to the front and rear joints. The front and rear hinges are starting but firm. Internally firmly bound.
