Seltene Reformationsschrift, nicht im VD17 verzeichnet! - Erste Ausgabe der Streitschrift als Antwort auf die Thesen des Reformators Martin Bucer (1491-1551) "Cum appendice praecipuorum argumentorum: Quod Supremus & infallibilis controversiarum fidei Judex sit Sola Scriptura Sacra; & non Romanus Pontifex" - nachdem die wahre Autorität des Christentums nicht das römisch-katholische Papsttum, sondern einzig die Heilige Schrift sei. Dieses Dictum rührt ganz nahe an die Thesen Martin Luthers. Helwig Garth war evangelischer Pfarrer (1579-1619) und schrieb auch unter seinen latinisierten Namensformen "Helvicus Garth", "Heluicus Garthe", "ein Doctor Theologiae, und Superintendent in Freyberg, gebohren in Hessen 1579, 18 Dec. Hat zu Marpurg und Straßburg studirt, zu Tübingen in Doctorem promoviret, und ist endlich in der deutschen Kirche zu Prag zu St. Salvator Prediger und Assessor des Consistorii worden, auch daselbst 1619, 5 Dec. Gestorben, nachdem er ein Lexicon latino-germano-graecum; de invocatione Sanctorum; de judice controversiarum ? geschrieben" (Jöcher). Durchgehend etwas stärker, aber meist gleichmäßig gebräunt, kaum Papierläsuren, insgesamt schönes, vollständiges Exemplar dieses höchst seltenen Titels in einem interessanten Manuskript-Einband mit roten, blau gefüllten Initialen und Rubrikation, wohl mit Auszügen aus dem Psalter einer spätmittelalterlichen Handschrift in einer gleichmäßigen, schönen Gotica-Textura.Jöcher II, 868. Interior old bookplate partially removed with some faint penciling in the front end pages. Red and black title page has old library embossure text is lightly toned has a very few occasional marginalia otherwise clean and unmarked. The plates are nice one folding plate has an old repair to a fold on the verso. All plates present all complete. The first edition "A very rich and beautifully equipped book" with 7 portrait panels showing historical portraits of Luther and his family and more than 200 coin depictions showing portraits Melanchthon is one cityscapes historical events etc. The coins are related to Luther and the Reformation. Since the beginning of the Reformation coins and medals have been important ways to commemorate Luther. The author of this study on Luther's life Christian Juncker 1668-1714 was a Saxon historian librarian and writer who was also a numismatist and who combined his interest in Protestant history with his fascination with coins in this unusual and beautiful book. He represented Luther's life via the medals and gained fame as an historian and numismatist as a result. Entirely in Latin except the last ad page which has fraktur German.
