The series of excavations at the cemetery of Marquis of Jin was carried out by Peking University's Department of Archaeology in conjunction with the Shanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology. The cemetery of Marquis of Jin has preserved a wealth of historical information and yielded numerous precious bronzes jade and proto-porcelain wares. This book itemizes the most significant of the artifacts and identifies the specific tomb from which each item came. As to dating the upper bound for the cemetery of Marquis of Jin cannot be earlier than Western Zhou and its lower bound cannot be later than early Spring or Autumn period. The discovery of the cemetery and the results of preliminary studies have helped to resolve certain puzzling problems in the study of Jin history corrected much misinformation in historical documents and recordings and greatly enriched the context for the research for the history of Jin state Jin culture and archaeology of Western Zhou. In short the present volume constitutes a significant contribution to the scholarship of Jin civilization and artistic accomplishment.

Shanghai People's Fine Arts Press hardcover
