Es FEHLEN der gestochene Titel das Porträtfrontispiz des Autors und der Stahlstich von Paul sonst ist der Band offensichtlich vollständig wie zu bibliographieren war. Das Inhaltsverzeichnis ist nach Seite 456 eingebunden die Karte der Ile de France Mauritius am Schluss des Bandes. Jacques Henri Bernhardin de Saint-Pierre 1737-1814 war Ingenieur-Offizier und lebte drei Jahre auf Mauritius. Nach seiner Rückkehr freundete er sich mit Jean Jacques Rousseau an der die Schriften von Saint-Pierre nachhaltig beeinflusste. In seinen letzten Lebensjahren war er Direktor des "Jardin des Plantes". Die erste französische Einzelausgabe von "Paul et Virginie" erschien 1789 im Vorwort schrieb Saint-Pierre er wolle den Beweis der Wahrheit herstellen "daß unser Glück einzig und allein auf einem natur- und tugendgemäßen Wandel beruht" und eine eingehende Schilderung der tropischen Vegetation geben. "Zeitgenossen bewunderten vor allem die sinnenhaft-anschauliche Schilderung einer bisher kaum bekannten Tropenlandschaft die Idee der >sensibilité< die ihre Verkörperung in Virginie fand und den Entwurf einer idealen Gesellschaft." Written by Sophie Cottin a French writer whose novels were popular in the nineteenth century and were translated into several languages. Bound in full straight grained morocco. Externally smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. The odd small mark to the boards with small cracks to the front joint. Internally firmly bound.
