Published by the agronomist Augstin Alletz the work gathers Saint-Pierre's proposals for the reform and improvement of society. Saint-Pierre's writings proved an important influence on the enlightenment especially on Rousseau although Rousseau did disagree with Saint-Pierre's proposals for European federation attacking the suggestion in an essay of 1756.
