Alma White 1862-1946 was the founder and bishop of the Pillar of Fire Church she became the first female bishop in the United States in 1918 noted for her association with the Ku Klux Klan and her feminism anti-Catholicism anti-Semitism anti-Pentecostalism and racism. In Why I do Not Eat Meat White argues that "the eating of flesh was detrimental to spiritual growth" and offers scriptural evidence to support a meatless diet. In her claims that the Lord prefers a fleshless diet White argues the health and economic benefits for consumers. A five-page addenda offers quotes from various sources supporting the abolition of a meat-diet. Brown boards titled in black with some corner bumping otherwise very good. She founded the Pillar of Fire Church which was the only religious denomination publicly affiliated with the Ku Klux Klan.
