1845AQ26050Derby: Thomas Richardson and Son 1845. 67pp 1. Wrappers included in pagination. With an engraved frontispiece and numerous engraved illustrations in the text. Original publisher's pictorial yellow wrappers. Rubbed and marked loss to spine. Internally clean and crisp. A mid-nineteenth-century edition in original unsophisticated state of Derby-based printer and publisher Thomas Richardson's emblematical bible designed to familiarise young readers with the holy scripture. This unorthodox production replaces key words and phrases with well-executed engravings with the aim of simplifying reading of the much abridged gospels; though deciphering the intention of the symbols does on occasion present its own challenge - thankfully complete sentences with the original terms reinstated are provided at the foot of each page. . 12mo.
