(Impressum) // Das Buch Ester bzw. Esther … ist ein Buch der Bibel, das von den Gefährdungen, aber auch Möglichkeiten des Lebens in der antiken jüdischen Diaspora erzählt. Der loyale Hofbeamte Mordechai und die schöne und mutige Königin Ester vereiteln den vom Großwesir Haman geplanten Genozid an den Juden im Perserreich. Am Ende der Erzählung sind alle Feinde tot, die Juden sind geachtet und glücklich, viele Proselyten schließen sich ihrer Religion an, und das Purimfest wird als jährliches Freudenfest gefeiert, das an Esters Tat erinnert. Das Esterbuch ist in drei verschiedenen Fassungen überliefert: einer hebräischen und zwei davon abweichenden griechischen Versionen. Das hebräische Esterbuch ist von hoher literarischer Qualität, aber wenig (und jedenfalls nicht explizit) religiös. Dies haben die griechischen Versionen durch eingefügte Gebete von Ester und Mordechai und weitere Hinweise auf ihre Frömmigkeit korrigiert. Im jüdischen Kanon gehört das hebräische Esterbuch zum dritten Hauptteil des Tanach, den Ketuvim (Schriften). Es wird als Festrolle (Megilla) beim Purimfest gelesen. Im christlichen Kanon der Septuaginta wird das griechische Esterbuch zu den Geschichtsbüchern gerechnet. Diese Einordnung übernehmen moderne katholische wie evangelische christliche Bibelübersetzungen mit Ausnahme der Bibel in gerechter Sprache, die dem jüdischen Kanon folgt. Es wird aber ein unterschiedlicher Text geboten.
