Karpel states that this volume has yet to be published but that the author's notes are available for study at The Library of The Kansas State Teachers College. Volume 1 lists a whopping 1544 artists covering the period from 1800 to 1927. Printed reproductions for each artist are listed. An essential reference since a: many artists are included even though they might not be generally thought of as muralists; and b: periodical literature is thoroughly indexed with respect to these artists. Written by the wife of the British Vice-Consul in the Kurdish outpost of Diarbekir Diyarbakir in the eastern part of Turkey. Both were ethnically Armenian. This was during the time of the "Armenian situation" in Turkey. A very rare and personal story of how the Armenians lived and what they endured during this time of WW I.
