Sewn binding with string is tight and booklet is square and free of major flaws other than some rubbing and small holes to front right upper corner. Copyright page has only 1952 with a note about this printing. No other softcover versions from the first printing are found - ""thanks to a number of children and teachers in the Harriet Johnson Nursery School; and special thanks to children in the Rowayton School Kindergarten and their teacher Harriet S. Sherman."" This book was the first for Sendak and Krauss and helped launch Sendak's career published 3 years before Harold and the Purple Crayon.
