1968B1023Garden City NY: The Crime Club Doubleday & Co 1968. First American edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Near Fine. This is the third book in Rendell's Inspector Wexford series. As with all of her early book's first editions whether UK or US are quite scarce and signed firsts are even scarcer.

This copy is very good in red cloth with silver titles on the spine. Slight bumping at the spine ends and slight wear along the bottom edge. And the book does lean a little. The rear endpaper has a vertical area where it appears that a library card pocket may have been removed but there are no other library indications at all. There is an embossed stamp on the half title page indicating the personal library of a previous owner. No other marks or damage. The unclipped DJ has been in a protective plastic sleeve and so is in excellent condition.
Rendell has signed at the top of the front flyleaf.

EB19. 1967B1024London: John Long 1967. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good. This is the third book in Rendell's Inspector Wexford series. As with all of her early books first editions are quite scarce and this title is often considered the rarest of all. And many of the copies of her early books went to public libraries rather than to the retail market.

This copy is very good in black cloth with gilt titles on the spine. The covers are in unusually good condition for it having been a library copy. Very slight bumping at the spine ends and very slight wear along the bottom edge. The front hinge has been tape reinforced but the binding is otherwise sound. Ex-library with ink stamps on the front pastedown and flyleaf and another ink stamp on the title page. The rear endpaper has a vertical residue where perhaps the now missing dust jacket may have been taped. Some soiling along the page edges. No other marks or damage. No jacket.

AB19. John Long hardcover
