Additionally including a postcard of Chiesa di S. Corona in Vicenza loosely inserted to which is written "There's a wonderful Bellini in here. Darling Carmen I have a sense you're not a huge fan of poetry but here is some anyway! Keep warm. Much love Michele". Presented to Carmen Callil an Australian publisher who founded Virago Press in 1973 to "publish books which celebrated women and women's lives and which would by so doing spread the message of women's liberation to the whole population". Virago publish works by new and neglected female authors publishing the works by authors such as Daphne du Maurier Sylvia Townsend Warner Margaret Atwood and Angela Carter all with a distinctive green spine synonymous with Virago.Virago published some of the works of Michele Roberts. Second printng stated but jacket shows "a novel by the author of Herzog and The Victim" which places this in 1964 or soon after although the date is not actually featured. Black textured cloth with gold and white stamping to spine and front board is clean and fresh. Unmarked tight and square but with some usual foxing to the UNTRIMMED text block.
