20061159germany: steidl 2006. first edition 2006.

an exceptional opportunity to explore the pioneering work of saul leiter one of the most influential figures in the history of color photography. here leiter offers a city dreamscape where color becomes as expressive as the subjects themselves.

cory reynolds describes leiter's photographic work as an "urban visual poetry that is by turns deeply affectionate edgy and breathtakingly poignant."

leiter had moved to new york in 1946 to pursue painting. although some of his color photographs were exhibited at the museum of modern art in 1953 they remained largely unseen for decades. it wasn't until the publication of "early color" that the full breadth of leiter’s innovative use of color was revealed to the world. this iconic photobook compiles his striking often abstract compositions—intimate lyrical glimpses into the city’s vibrant streets.

germany: steidl. isbn: 3-86521-139-9. 176 pages. 8.26 x 8.22". hardcover. bound in cloth-covered boards. book condition: fine. jacket condition: fine. located in our greenpoint store. steidl unknown

Olyan seeks to reconstruct the Hebrew Bible’s particular ideas of what is disabling and their potential social ramifications. Biblical representations of disability and biblical classification schemas – both explicit and implicit – are compared to those of the Hebrew Bible’s larger ancient West Asian cultural context and to those of the later Jewish biblical interpreters who produced the Dead Sea Scrolls. This study will help the reader gain a deeper and more subtle understanding of the ways in which biblical writers constructed hierarchically significant difference and privileged certain groups e.g. persons with “whole†bodies over others e.g. persons with physical “defectsâ€. It also explores how ancient interpreters of the Hebrew Bible such as the Qumran sectarians reproduced and reconfigured earlier biblical notions of disability and earlier classification models for their own contexts and ends. Editorial Reviews Review ""Olyan's book constitutes an excellent overview of disability in the Hebrew Bible. Though the book represents careful and very sound scholarship it is also clearly written and accessible to the reader. The book remains interesting and thoughtful throughout.""
Biblical Interpretation Sarah J.
