Reuvens 1793-1837 son of an eminent Dutch jurist originally studied the law but switched professions and became professor of Greek Latin and archaeology at Leyden. The compiler of the catalogue Leemans has provided a valuable 75-page biography of Reuvens. 6234 lots of books 86 lots of prints 79 lots of manuscripts and 98 portrait busts and bookcases. Schultens' collection contained over twelve thousand titles and rivaled the University library in size. Three quarters of his books dealt with the Abrahamic religions systematic theology biblical commentary church history philology and ancient history including INCUNABLES ILLUMINATED VELLUM COPIES AND ONE HUNDRED ARABIC HEBREW PERSIAN AND TURKISH MANUSCRIPTS. Leiden University acquired eighty of the manuscripts its largest single manuscript purchase in more than a century.     THIS COPY IS PRICED THROUGHOUT by Leiden printer and bookseller Dirk II Haak 1754-18-- who signed the title.
