Professor of Law at the University of Halle and an authority on civil law Ludovici was the first jurist to write a legal treatise in German. A prolific author he published works on a wide variety of legal topics. His work is notable for its clarity well-crafted syntheses and elegant prose style. The first title is a comprehensive treatise on the laws and legal procedure relating to bills of exchange. The second title deals with ecclesiastical law and church discipline. The first offprint is on the development of organs in phanerogams plants with seeds; "his theory of the flower and fruit is an admirable performance for the time even though we abandon his view of the stalk nature of placentas and some other notions as we obviously must. As Robert Brown founded the history of the development of the ovule so Schleiden founded that of the flower and his example influenced other botanists" Von Sachs History of Botany 1530-1860. Schleiden presented these offprints to British chemist Dr. William Francis who in 1852 joined with publisher Richard Taylor to found the firm of Taylor and Francis. unknown books

A preface by German orientalist Jacob Rhenferd 16541712 professor at Franeker the Netherlands' second oldest university until it was disbanded by Napoleon in 1811 outlines both the major tenets of his argument and the opposing arguments by Johannes Cocceius Thomas Gataker and others who identified Hebraisms.<br>Â Â Â Â This is in Latin Greek and Hebrew with sidenotes scattered woodcut initials and a few woodcut tailpieces; an engraved allegorical vignette signed J.G. graces the title-page. <br>Â Â Â Â <br>Â Â Â Â For the history of printed treatises on this subject at Franeker see: L.
