All pages are present though the last 15-20 are dog-eared. and the final page's dog ear is nearly detached from the page. The paper-covered covers appear to be the original but are very worn and nearly illegible and the rear cover is missing a portion at the top; the spine is also lacking. This book was crudely rebound at some point and the front end papers are taken from another book; there are no rear end papers. The title page lacks a date but she dates it as 1827 based upon Table LII Of Numbers which provides examples of Roman numerals the last being for 1827 p. 144. She describes this printing as "Undated and different in make-up from other Holbrook and Fessenden editions. . This edition resembles most closely that of Middletown 1829." OCLC shows no holdings for this particular printing though Skeel in 1958 reported seven copies at Yale Harvard the Henry Ford Museum NYPL Columbia University Western Reserve Historical Society and Middlebury College. Size: 5"-6" - Vigesimo-quarto 24mo. 168 pages. Item Type: Book. The text block is tight. The first few pages are are folded at the bottom corner. A few internal pages 87-92 are folded at the upper corner. The illustrations for the fables are similar to Alexander Anderson's first set Plate XIII in Skeel but some of them have been reversed from his originals. The rag paper is supple. Some pages in the middle 75-111 have a tide mark at the gutter. Exposure to moisture may have resulted in the small white dry bumps adhering to the surface on the pages up to 68. Bound with a leather spine and blue paper over wooden boards. The outside paper of the front cover has perished along with over a third of the board itself exposing the cloth ribbons. The front pastedown is loose has lost the bottom corner and is tattered at the middle of the outside edge from the sharp edges of the board.
