Tomus 35- Saba Malaspina gestorben 1297 oder 1298 war ein italienischer Historiker Schriftsteller und Geistlicher. Er wurde um die Mitte des 13. Jahrhunderts in Süditalien geboren stammte aus einer "römischen Familie mit einer starken Tradition der Unterstützung der päpstlichen Sache" und war Diakon später Bischof der Diözese Mileto. Über seine frühen Jahre und seine Ausbildung ist wenig bekannt. Sein Ehrentitel magister deutet darauf hin dass er an einer Universität studiert hat. Im Jahr 1275 sammelte er im Auftrag von Papst Gregor X. den Zehnten für Kreuzzüge. Um 1283 begann Malaspina während er als Amanuensis von Papst Martin IV. diente mit der Abfassung des Liber gestorum regum Sicilie; er beendete seine Geschichte Siziliens am 29. März 1285 zu diesem Zeitpunkt hatte er bereits das römische Bürgerrecht erworben.Der Liber beginnt mit der Geburt Manfreds im Jahr 1232 und endet mit dem Tod Karls von Anjou im Jahr 1285wobei der Schwerpunkt auf den Ereignissen nach dem Tod Friedrichs II.
