Acquaforte misure: 265 x 297 Pittore e incisore italiano. Si formò a Belluno presso artisti locali e nella bottega dell'incisore Paolo de Filippi, Solo nel 1803 riuscì a trasferirsi a Venezia per frequentare l'Accademia di Belle Arti godendo della protezione del conte Leopoldo Cicognara. Nel 1809 lo troviamo a Roma, dopo aver ottenuto il pensionato, insieme a Francesco Hayez. Qui accolti dal maestro Antonio Canova, ottennero la commissione di alcuni affreschi nel cantiere della Galleria Chiaramonti e nei Musei Vaticani. Negli stessi anni De Min collaborò anche come disegnatore per le tavole della Storia della scultura del Cicognara (Venezia 1813-18). Tornò a Venezia dove si dedicò quasi esclusivamente alla pratica di decoratore. Dal 1818 Demin si stabilì a Padova dove fu molto attivo intervenendo con importanti cicli decorativi di impronta e gusto neoclassico nei più prestigiosi palazzi cittadini. Il soggetto di questa stampa è tratto dal dipinto realizzato nel 1817 come omaggio artistico offerto dalle province venete all'imperatore Francesco I in occasione delle sue nozze (le quarte: 1816) con Carolina Augusta di Baviera. L’omaggio fu un’idea del conte Cicognara che riuscì nel doppio intento di evitare di sottrarre denaro alla cittadinanza e finanziò decine fra i migliori artisti ed artigiani veneti. Il dipinto di De Min è ad oggi disperso ma l’autore stesso egli realizzò l'incisione per l'album che riproduceva, commentate da brani di Cicognara e Pietro Giordani, tutte le opere eseguite per il fausto evento: Omaggio delle Provincie Venete alla Maestà di Carolina Augusta..., Venezia 1818. La scena si svolge all'interno del maestoso palazzo del Re per creare un'atmosfera solenne, accresciuta dalla presenza della folla animata che circonda i protagonisti. Il re è un uomo anziano dalla barba lunga rappresentato in piedi a sinistra vestito con un abito riccamente panneggiato e regge nella mano destra un bastone affiancato da soldati e da uomini illustri. La regina di Saba è rappresentata al centro della scena, è una donna giovane e bella avvolta anch'ella in una abito ricco, regge in una mano il bastone e con l'altra indica i doni che sta per offrire al Re. Sullo sfondo, tra le colonne gigantesche, diversi personaggi osservano la scena. Secondo la Bibbia la regina di Saba, venuta a conoscenza della fama di sapiente del re di Israele, volle metterlo alla prova con enigmi e quesiti ai quali Salomone risponde in modo soddisfacente, dimostrando così che nessuna questione era troppo difficile per lui. Stupita, la regina, ammise che la fama di Salomone era pari nemmeno alla metà della sua effettiva sapienza e saggezza e, come rappresentato nella stampa, lo celebra offrendogli doni quali oro e pietre preziose. Nel margine inferiore a sinistra "Demin dipinse e incise" al centro titolo inciso. Impressione eccellente, dai neri intensi. Ottimo stato di conservazione. Ampi margini oltre la battuta del rame. The spine is heavily chipped and the cloth is splitting along sections of the rear joint. 280 pages in all consisting of pages 1-16 1-16 1-16 1-8 1-16 1-24 1-16 1-40 1-24 1-24 1-16 1-24 1-32 1-4 & 1-4. The rear hinge has been reinforced with archival document tape. There is dampstaining to the bottom front corner of the pages and a few pages age toned or darkened. There is a short tear to page 7 of document 5 as well as to the front edge of the last page of the book.
