As their antiques business thrived they started to sell reproductions of antique fittings and hardware used to restore or authentically reproduce period furniture.</p> <p>The catalogs illustrated metal drawer pulls escutcheons hinges door locks door knockers ornaments and castors; wooden finials and pendants; and iron hinges; lighting fixtures; carved wooden chair legs and furniture feet mirror and clock pictures and numerous patterns of wooden inlay.</p> <p>Two price lists show the firm’s re-location in the 1930s from Boston to New York City. A “50% Discount†ink annotation suggest the effects of the Great Depression on their trade.</p> unknown

Channa or Chana Ruppin was the widow of Arthur Ruppin an early Zionist leader who had emigrated to Palestine in 1907 and became a key figure in laying the groundwork for the future state by acquiring land. 76891Small collection of Zionist material from the 1970s showing efforts to build both financial and political support in the United States for the struggling new nation of Israel.<br /> <br /> The group includes three memos issued by the national office of the Radical Zionist Alliance RZA a grassroots chapter-based organization officially founded in 1970. The group supported national self-determination for both Jews and Palestinians. Their slogan was "Be a Revolutionary in Zion and a Zionist in the Revolution" expressing their belief that migration to Israel was the best means to change Israeli society and influence American Jewish consciousness. So many of their key leaders returned to the Promised Land the RZA ceased functioning in 1972. One of the documents in this group is a one-page typed memo dated October 13 1970 providing an update about organizing efforts and a call for financial help. "This cannot be overemphasized: WE ARE BROKE. Comrades are not getting propaganda because we can't always pay to mail it."<br /> <br /> The collection also includes:<br /> <br /> Color flyer for the Salute to Israel Parade held Sunday April 25 1971 at 11 a.m. in New York. The community-wide parade was held to celebrate the 23rd anniversary of Israel.<br /> <br /> Outreach letter from The Jewish Right dated February 1971. Book The full title is "The letters of Governor Hutchinson and Lieut. Governor Oliver &c. printed at Boston and remarks thereon : with the Assembly's Address and the Proceedings of the Lords Committee of Council : together with the substance of Mr. Wedderburn's speech relating to those letters."This English edition believed to be edited by Hutchinson's friend Israel Mauduit was issued following the investigation into the 1773 publication of Hutchinson and Oliver's letters in Boston. Sabin 34072. Howes H-851 Howes 1994 837.No edition is stated but the Library of Congress' "Revolutionary America 1763-1789" describes it as the "second London edition" #31610. What appears to be an earlier printing held by the Library of Congress E211 .M445 Copy 1 RBSCD only goes to signature T and ends with p. 126 including double-numbered pages 75-80. This copy matches the collation of that copy but adds an additional signature S and ends with p. 134. The additional signature provides the report from the Committee of Council for Plantation Affairs read in the presence of King George 7 February 1774. The letters were provided to Thomas Cushing Speaker of the Massachusetts Assembly in December 1772 by Benjamin Franklin Pennsylvania's agent in London. His letter admitting his role appears on pp 72-73. Although he requested they not be printed that request was ignored. The letters were written in 1767-1769 but were used largely out of context to fan the pre-Revolutionary flames. The way they were presented was expressed in a part of the lengthy title the Boston printers provided: "The Judicious Reader will Discover the Fatal Source of the Confusion and Bloodshed in which this Province especially has been involved and Which Threatned sic Total Destruction to the Liberties of all America." Sabin notes the publication of the letters "did more perhaps to bring revolutionary matters to a crisis than any previous publication." In his note Howes is less tentative: "Publication of these letters . fanned revolutionary sentiments in America more than any other book of the period." Size: Octavo 8-9". 134 pages. Item Type: Book. The text block is tight and bright in near fine condition. The only marking is on the title page where two previous owners have marked the pages on which the various parts of the collection of documents begin. A Very Good-minus hardcover copy that has been rebound in red silk over boards. The silk has been coated in some way. The reason for the "minus" is because it is lacking its spine. The corners are sharp though worn through to the boards. The page edges have been stained red probably when the book was rebound. Quantity Available: 1. A rare collection of fascinating original photographs capturing the first Western tourists in Israel and Israeli captured territories approximately a month after the Six-Day War in 1967 by Dutch journalist and photographer Bianca Maria Dony. The 44 photos in the album show the passenger ship SS Pegasus soldiers local people in the streets of Jerusalem and other cities an early war monument checkpoints destroyed military vehicles and other remnants of the war. The album is from the archive of the photographer; some of these photographs were sold to and published in national Dutch and international newspapers and magazines while others remained unpublished.Bianca Dony was part of a group of 150 Christian tourists from various European countries who were now - after the Israeli capture of these areas - able to visit the holy places in the old city of Jerusalem Bethlehem and other places that had previously been inaccessible. The tourists in the present photographs were the first of many and Dony took this opportunity to not only document the trip itself but also the general aftermath of the war.With an additional leaf in the inside front pocket of the album containing notes of how many photographs were sold to different newspapers and magazines including 10 to the "Haagsche Courant" written in blue and red ink and in pencil. Added to the first photograph in the album is a newspaper clipping from the "Jerusalem Post" with the headline "Haifa direct to old city for first time" about the first tourists visiting Israel after the Six-Day War. Some of the clear plastic inserts have small round white stickers on them with different abbreviations connecting the photographs to the newspapers and magazines that possibly printed them for example "HC" for Haagsche Courant etc. 3 photographs are loosely inserted and 2 of these are duplicates of other photo's in the album the 2 duplicates contain a blue stamp "foto bianca dony 147 Malakkastraat Den Haag - Tel. 5582540 Giro 303814" and a manuscript caption in red ink on the back. Most other photographs are simply numbered in pencil on the back. This rare collection of 44 historically significant photographs is in very good condition.l Cf. Rebecca L.
