Population and Housing Census 1972 Series No. 1- released by Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics details the findings of Israel's 3rd official census since its creation in 1948 first census after the Six-Day War. Preface by Acting Government Statistician Dr. M. Sicron. "According to the provisional count Israel's population amounted to 3124000 persons on the night between May 19th and 20eth 1972. This figure comprises the permanent residents of Israel including those living in the Administered Territories. At the time of the previous census in May 1961 there were 2179000 residents in Israel. The increase of 994500 persons comes directly from natural birth increase- 568000 persons- and from the migration balance- 315000 persons.The addition of the inhabitants of East Jerusalem to the population of Israel is also included." Text in Hebrew and English includes a fold-out administrative district map of Israel making no distinction between West and East Jerusalem but does not include data beyond "the Green Line"- Gaza or the West Bank. Publication no. 9 from the Population and Housing Census of 1961 "provides detailed information on Labour Force Participation Economic Branch Occupation and Employment status." Provides ample maps charts and diagrams on the demographics of Israel's labor force at the time of Israel's 2nd census after its creation in 1948. The charts provide data with special sections addressing men women specific occupations the non-Jewish predominantly Arab population 137000 aged 14 and over and the Jewish population subdivided into places of birth Europe and America Africa and Asia and Israel as well as waves of immigration prior to 1947 1947-1954 and after 1955. The data is gathered from a 20% population sample pool. A fascinating study of demographic and economic shifts across all of Israel's rapidly growing settlements within what will eventually be referred to as "the Green Line." Text and charts in English and Hebrew. Errata sheet attached at front. Corners bumped slight creasing and small closed tears along spine. Former library stamp on front wrapper. Compiled by Arieh Shahar Uzi Paran Arieh Bittan with a preface by Professor R. Bachi the Government Statistician. Details every administrative area of Israel at the time of its 2nd census after its creation in 1948. "Presents a detailed description of two urban geographical-statistical frameworks: geographical-statistical areas within the boundraies of urban settlements and conurbations around the large cities." Along with population data the volume also provides an exhaustive account of public buildings industrial areas commercial and business areas as well as agricultural and special function areas. The census divides Israel into 31 urban settlements with the total population in these administrative areas numbering at 1488622. Of the three major municipalities at the time Jerusalem prior to the annexation of East Jerusalem in 1967 numbers at 166301 residents Haifa at 182007 and Tel Aviv at at 386612. Illustrated with numerous maps 21 of them on foldout plates all 1:20000 scale denoting administrative sectors municipal boundaries paved and unpaved roads some public buildings and topographical landmarks. Taken still shortly after the creation of the country this study does not provide data regarding the "natural geographical regions" of Israel. Overall a fascinating study on the rate of growth and expansion of settlement blocs in Israel showing the inception of what will eventually be heavily populated cities within the "Green Line." The majority of text and charts are given in English and Hebrew English introduction on front Hebrew on back; however many specific details such as buildings street names etc. are given only in Hebrew. 'Spach's compilation of gynecological and obstetrical texts was the largest such collection of its day reprinting most of the works collected in Caspar Wolff's Volumen gynaeciorum and Gaspard Bauhin's Gynaeciorum sive de mulierum affectibus 1586-88 and adding several other treatises. The collection includes works by Plater whose anatomy of the female genitalia heads the collection Moschion Le Boë Montanus Paré and many others. Some notations in margins pages browned minor spots a few small holes. <br/><br/>Bookplate of James Young Simpson 1811-1870 Scottish doctor and discoverer of the anaesthetic uses of chloroform in medical work. Includes signed note by Simpson dated 1860 a note of introduction for another doctor Dr. Elisha Kinney touring Europe. Text in Latin and Greek. GM 6013. Israel Spach 1560-1610 studied medicine under Jean Riolan the Elder and later at the University of Tubingen. After receiving his doctorate he practised medicine before taking a professorship at the Strasbourg Academy. This book is one of Spach's many scholarly works. In this text he has compiled as editor a great collection of gynaecological writings. It is in effect the third edition of the collection previously issued by Wolff No. 6011 and Bauhin No. 6012. There are no OCLC holdings of this Camp Cejwin version of the "The Camper's Song Pack" publication which includes the 12 preliminary pages of Cejwin material.<br /> <br /> First opened in 1919 the Cejwin Camps which stood for "Central Jewish Institute" were started by Jewish educators Albert and Bertha Schoolman to "integrate Judaism with the American way of life" - according to the Jewish Theological Seminary. The camps promoted Zionism Judaism and American outdoor and camping culture to the underprivileged children of New York's Jewish community. The organization was ultimately composed of seven camps serving more than 1000 campers. The camps ultimately closed in 1992 but are seem as instrumental and influential in the development of the now successful "Camp Ramah" network of camps. It is considered the first Jewish Summer Camp.
