381 pages. "This survey seeks to render an account of what the Congress has labored to achieve (in the twelve years since its constituent meeting)... The realities of Jewish life are rapidly shifting before our very eyes, and soon a new generation will arise which knows not our problems and to which many of our controversies will be incomprehensible... A new leaf has been turned over in the relations beween the various Jewish ideological camps, while the proclamation of the State of Israel deeply affects and colors all aspects of Jewish life everywhere." - from Preface. Stone documents his experience as "the first newspaperman to travel the Jewish underground in Europe and to arrive in Palestine on a so-called illegal boat. I did not [make this journey] as a newspaperman merely in search of a good story, but as a kinsman, fulfilling a moral obligation to my brothers. I wanted to, as a journalist, provide a picture of their trials and their aspirations in the hope that good people, Jewish and non-Jewish, might be moved to help them." - xiii. Dust jacket not included. Somewhat above-average wear with usual library markings and small patch of cloth missing from backstrip where label removed. Binding intact.
