Notes: A beautiful calligraphic work from a quote of the Prophet Founder of the Baha'i Faith Baha'u'llah. It is from the Tablet to Manikchí Ṣáḥib. The corresponding English translation is:<br><br>"At a time when darkness had encompassed the world the ocean of divine favour surged and His Light was made manifest that the doings of men might be laid bare. This verily is that Light which hath been foretold in the heavenly scriptures. Should the Almighty so please the hearts of all men will be purged and purified through His goodly utterance and the light of unity will shed its radiance upon every soul and revive the whole earth." <br><br>The calligraphy is by Hesam Sabetian in fine broken Nasta'liq script. Notes: Text was composed in Baghdad in AH 1278/AD 1861-62. <br><br>The Kitáb-i-Ãqán The Book of Certitude is one of many books held sacred by followers of the Bahá'à Faith; it is the second most important work after The Most Holy Book the Kitab-i-Aqdas by the pen of Baha’u’llah. The work was composed partly in Persian and partly in Arabic in 1861 when He was living as an exile in Baghdad then a province of the Ottoman Empire. <br>The Ãqán constitutes a major theological work of Bahá'u'lláh and hence of the Bahá'à Faith. It is sometimes referred to as the completion of the Persian Bayán by The Bab the forerunner of Baha’u’llah. When it was lithographed in Bombay in 1882 it was the first work of Baháà scripture to be published. It was first translated into English in 1904 one of the first works of Bahá'u'lláh to appear in English. Shoghi Effendi Baha’u’llah’s great grandson who retranslated the work into English in 1931 referred to the work as follows: A model of Persian prose of a style at once original chaste and vigorous and remarkably lucid both cogent in argument and matchless in its irresistible eloquence this Book setting forth in outline the Grand Redemptive Scheme of God occupies a position unequalled by any work in the entire range of Baháà literature except the Kitáb-i-Aqdas Bahá'u'lláh's Most Holy Book. <br>This book is written in response to the uncle of the Báb Ḥájà MÃrzá Siyyid Muḥammad. He had been perplexed to hear that the promised one of the Islam was his own nephew. When he was told that this was the same objection voiced by the uncle of the prophet of Islam he was shaken and decided to investigate the matter. In 1861 he traveled to Karbila Iraq to visit his brother Ḥájà MÃrzá Ḥasan-Alà and then went to Baghdad to meet Bahá'u'lláh. There he posed four questions about the signs of the appearance of the promised one in writing to Bahá'u'lláh.
