"Allocutio Pro Pace" "Address for Peace" presents the Pope's speech in French to the United Nations General Assembly with a preface and introduction in English by UN Secretary General U Thant. The companion volume is a facsimile of a work produced in 1806 by the great Italian printer Giambattista Bodoni in honor of the visit of Pope Pius VII to the coronation of Napoleon in Paris. In this second work we see Bodoni's printing of the Lord's Prayer in 155 languages from Asia Europe Africa and the Americas including many using non-Roman alphabets. It was a tour de force in typography requiring the design of Illyric Ethiopian Russian Arabic Hebrew and Greek types among others and manifesting Bodoni's unequalled virtuosity.
