Full morocco smooth back divided into five panels title in gilt to second panel remaining panels decorated with small fleuron tools in blind covers with a single line border tulip frame with volute corner pieces rope roll in gilt to inner edge a.e.g. Rubbed to extremities with small amounts of loss to colour. Internally very lightly browned with one or two spots of foxing former owner's name to ffep otherwise fairly clean. Not found in Griffiths but definitely after 1801 and before 1829. Reprint. Good. 24mo - over 5" - 5¾" tall. Not dated c.1801 as the Dedicatory Epistle from John Reeves to the Queen is dated Jan 18 1801. Size 24mo 5.25" x 2.75" pages not numbered. Contemporary binding of full burgundy straight grain morocco with double gilt border to each cover tooled gilt bands to the spine with gilt titles in the second compartment and small gilt dots in the remaining compartments flower and leaf border decoration to the inner turn-ins. Condition good the binding has been repaired to at some point with the remains of an old worm track to the covers but not the pages new end-papers upper outer corner repaired corners hinges and spine ends rubbed gilt rubbed and dull on spine more so to the covers title worn at edges and dust marked pages slightly toned throughout with the odd couple of spots to occasional pages else contents complete and clean. Bound at the rear is "A New Version of the Psalms of David Fitted to the Tunes used in Churches by N. Brady D.D. and N. Tate Esq." Also published by John Reeves and undated. in 1801 The Book of Common Prayer started to use the "United Church of England and Ireland" phrase for the first time <br/> <br/> Published for John Reeves, Esq. Full roan leather VG. both volumes unpaginated but approx 650pp all edges gilt in an attractive matching brown roan leather travelling case with hinged lid extremities of the rasised bands a little rubbed from sliding into the case corners bumped bottom of the case rather worn with some leather loss the first 20 or so page of the Common Prayer darkened as if they have come into contact with grease/fat an attactive little set. Diamond 48 edition. A small each volume is approx 3.5 inches tall & 2 inches wide the pair together 1.5 inches thick liturgical & devotional set nicely typset in a miniscule font. printed at the University Press, Oxford by Samuel Collingwood and sold by E Gardiner, Paternoster Row, London hardcover
