Poster from the 1971 May Day protests in Washington DC a series of large-scale civil disobedience actions in protest against the Vietnam War. The poster reproduces a well-known portrait of Sioux chief Sitting Bull and utilizes a quote by him on the upper half. Students & Youth for a Peoples' Peace was spearheaded by the May Day Tribe a group made up of Yippies and some of the more militant elements of the anti-war movement. The protests resulted in a series of violent clashes between demonstrators and police resulting in more than 12000 arrests. We find no examples in the trade 2018 and while OCLC shows a cataloged listing for the poster the only holding is a digital image in the U.New Mexico archives. T3. This interesting book on election and other political posters of the mid 1920s in England and in Switzerland captures very effectively the social political ferment in those two democracies after the end of the First World War. Profusely illustrated the posters themselves tell the tale most effectively. Must have had an avid audience in Japan whose admiration for effective design in advertising and propaganda would have combined with an interest in democratic movements in Europe as their own "Taishô Democracy" was evolving. Posters from that era were featured in an international touring exhibition by the British Council between 1981 and 1985 and were the subject of an exhibition by Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery in 1998. 15976Archive of 4 very large female empowerment posters dating from 1944 to 1966. Swiss women's suffrage posters dating 1946 1954 1959 and 1966 each measuring between 30.5 in and 50.5 inches. Women in Switzerland fought a very long battle for suffrage not receiving the right to vote until 1971. All the posters included in this archive demonstrate that women were equally capable to men in the workforce and thus equally deserving and entitled to the rights of citizenship. All 4 posters in very good to fine condition. A pictorially stunning set.<br/><br/>1. Swiss Women's Suffrage: Vote Yes posters. c. 1946. 15923YWCA "Care for Her" poster c. 1915. Original large WWI poster backed on linen 41" x 27." This poster prominently features a woman factory worker confidently holding up an early biplane. It states "Care for Her through the YWCA: " "For every fighter a woman worker!" This charming and highly effective poster was created for the YWCA which played an important role in improving the welfare of women throughout WWI. It highlights the emergence of the female industrial worker who proved to be a versatile and skilled performer. The YWCA advocated for women's rights in the workplace limiting lengthy shifts and prohibiting night work. Treidlercreated this poster and was a skilled and prolific illustrator was famous for his posters in World War I and World War II. Some age related toning and some wear with minor loss of color in some areas and minor repairs. Colors are still strong. Overall in good condition. unknown books
